WAM Song of the Year
Now is the time to be getting your best songs ready and recorded for the WAM Song of the Year contest. Entries close at 5pm on 14 August so there isn't that much time left. The comp is in it's 20th year and the recognition for winning or doing well is enormous. Also, the prizes are well worth checking out. Tim Winton
Tim Winton has won the Miles Franklin Award for the fourth time. This one being for his 12th book of fiction 'Breath'.
Apparently he prefers being out of the spotlight and didn't attend the awards night in Sydney earlier this week. Instead he was somewhere near Ningaloo reef off Western Australia's North West Cape.

Funding for WA Musicians
It's amazing what you can get if you know how. This year's Contemporary Music Grants have been released to the tune of $170,000! The Department of Culture and the Arts has awarded the grants to a variety of West Australian artists enabling them to pursue current projects such as recording, touring, marketing and so on.
